A gift to Cantù
On December 21, 2021, the sculptural work by Giovanni Mason "Love for Life" was installed in the center of the Pianella roundabout in Cantù, the nerve center of the city.
The sculpture was donated to the Municipality of Cantù by the artist: "It is the representation of non-violence and a hymn to life", a thought that is a common thread in many of Mason's works.
The work had already been exhibited for the first time in Cantù, in Villa Calvi; then in Milan for "Fuori EXPO 2015" outside Palazzo Lombardia, a work selected through the notice "Feeding The Future, now", promoted by the Regional Council to enhance the excellence of Lombardy.
It is therefore an element that returns to the city in a definitive and absolutely representative position, a point of union between Cantù and Como.
Biography
Giovanni Mason was born on the 27 December 1937 at Piombino Dese/Padova (Italy). He lives and works at Cantù/Como (Italy). He was fascinated by, and attracted to, the art of modelling from a very young age. He completed his artistic studies by following various sculpture courses at the Accademia di Belle Arti' at Brera in Milan. Critics became interested in his work from his first exhibitions. In 1974 he received the 'Ambrogino d'Oro' from the Town Council of Milan, in honour of his artistic merits. From that moment, a new and more intense period of Mason's artistic production began. The continuous successful succession of exhibitions and official recognitions, the attention of qualified art critics and various museums, (where some of his works ore permanently on show), confirm the validity of his art an international level.
